Legacy Lighters

Gulf Oil Company Zippo Lighter 1935. Kendall Oil and Gulf were the first oil companies to advertise using  Zippo lighters. This Zippo dated to before 1936 when the hinges were put on the inside.

George G. Blaisdell, then co-owner of the Blaisdell Oil Co., formed Zippo in 1932. In 1933 Zippo started  selling wind proof lighters for $1.95.
